TUI NA

What is Tui Na
Tui Na (pronounced ‘twee nah’) is a deep tissue Chinese massage that has been used in China for centuries. Tui Na massage is a modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine that uses the same principles as acupuncture by manipulating the Qi in the acupuncture Channels. Tui Na works the muscles, helping them to relax and repair themselves through the application of massage and manipulation techniques such as kneading, rolling fist, chopping and acupressure.

Benefits of Tui Na

Tui na is used to treat musculoskeletal problems including stiff neck, shoulder pain, sciatica and sore back.

It can also help conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, headaches, migraines, premenstrual syndrome, insomnia and emotional problems.

Tui Na helps stimulate the body’s own healing process, leading to improved health and vitality and it can simply be used for relaxation and general well-being.

What to wear

Tui Na is practiced over clothes, so there is no need to remove any clothing apart from coats, shoes and jewellery. It is best to wear comfortable loose clothing (avoid jeans if possible). Therapeutic oils are sometimes used on the hands, feet and neck.

Acupuncture or Tui Na?

Tui na can be used instead of acupuncture to treat children, or people who are fearful of needles. Cristina may practice Tui Na during acupuncture sessions to increase the benefit of the treatment.
